Week #26 Don't use plastic straws

As we are getting into the full summer, it's time when  we like to go out and hang out with our friends over some drinks. And it stil happens quite often that you get your drink with a plastic straw.

Did you know that plastic straws are among the top 10 contributors to plastic marine debris across the globe?

With this fact in mind, you should know that most recycling machines aren’t capable of recycling straws, given their size.

Can you imagine, in just the U.S. alone, one estimate suggests 500 million straws are used every single day? One study published last year estimated as many as 8.3 billion plastic straws pollute the world’s beaches (source).

Luckily, we can see some alternatives available more often, such as bamboo or steel straws, which can be cleaned up and reused.

You should still consider saying no to, for example, paper straws as it’s still quite an unnecessary feature to your drink that least to the waste.
