Week #51 Make your own cleaning products

Have you ever think about cleaning products and their content? Sometimes it's easy to assume that just because these products are sold in almost every store imaginable, that they’re safe to use. Changing for the DIY cleaning products can bring you some great benefits to your home and environment.

By making your own DIY cleaning supplies, you will greatly reduce toxins in your home. Cleaning products that smell like “citrus” or “pine” can contain more than 3,000 different chemical ingredients including linalool and eugenol, which are common allergens.

Vinegar, baking soda, lemon juice and olive oil (and of course, water) are all staple products found in most kitchens and also the main components of a number of DIY cleaners.

Toxins in cleaning products are more than just harmful to you and your family when they are poured or washed down the drain they can also become hazardous for the environment (source).

There are many guides to make your DIY cleaning products at home. The key ingredients are white vinegar and baking soda and you can make cleaning products basically for anything.

Unless you’re cleaning up after the flu, virus or a stomach bug, you don’t need an army of powerful chemicals to get the job done.
