Just as keeping your car in shape improves your fuel efficiency, keeping your home in shape improves your energy efficiency.

Make regular checkups on your energy efficiency. Make sure your home has adequate insulation and energy-saving windows, and use a programmable thermostat for more efficient heating and cooling — and, of course, energy-saving lightbulbs for more efficient lighting. Here is also a checklist of the things you can check on a regular basis in order to be saving in the right place.

Keep in mind that our energy, water and food systems are all intricately connected, and consuming just about anything has an energy footprint of some kind, even if it’s not directly seen in your electricity bill.
