Tip #84 Watch and learn

It's important to have an overview across various topics and understand what is happening around us. Instead of binge-watching some TV shows, you could try tapping into some documentaries. Luckily, there are plenty of good quality TV documents across major streaming platforms.

You would be surprised by the volume of documentaries on the nature and ecology topics available for you within one click. Use your time watching and learning something new. It's important to spread awareness especially when we are facing the climate crisis. Let me share with you a few of my favourite documentaries. Even though most of these documentaries are a slap in your face, it's good to be aware of the unpleasing facts that we do to our planet.

A Plastic Ocean
When a sea-loving journalist discovered the reality of our oceans being polluted with tons of plastic, he set out to make a difference. Craig Leeson, professional diver Tanya Streeter, and a team of scientists travelled to more than 20 locations over a four-year period to explore the consequences of plastic pollution on marine life, agriculture, and more. Outside of the film, its founders created A Plastic Ocean organization to spread awareness about the impact of plastic and ways to take action.

David Attenborough: a life on our planet
The voice of the finest ecological documentaries of our time, BBC journalist and naturalist David Attenborough deserved a documentary dedicated to his immense career in the service of life on Earth. Produced by Silverback Films and WWF, this unique documentary retraces the journey of this benevolent explorer who, for more than 90 years, travelled the world as a whole to tell us about it. While focusing on the great modern challenges to protect the planet, this sublime film offers a true message of hope to the next generations.

Breaking Boundaries: The Science of Our Planet
David Attenborough and scientist Johan Rockström examine Earth's biodiversity collapse and how this crisis can still be averted.

Mission Blue
Oceanographer Sylvia Earle appeals to people's sensibilities by reminding them of the urgency to save the oceans. For four years, the two directors of this documentary followed this courageous woman through her activities around the globe. Highlighting pollution, overfishing, and climate change as the main struggles is a striking testimony served by incredible footage.

Seaspiracy
Passionate about ocean life, a filmmaker sets out to document the harm that humans do to marine species - and uncovers alarming global corruption.

Cowspiracy
Follow the shocking, yet humorous, journey of an aspiring environmentalist, as he daringly seeks to find the real solution to the most pressing environmental issues and true path to sustainability.

The Ivory Game
This documentary produced by Leonardo DiCaprio goes undercover to investigate the ivory trade (both illegal and legal), and brings to light the horrific practice of elephant tusk poaching. A call to action for activists and governments alike, The Ivory Game sheds light on and condemns the international ivory trade to prevent elephants' imminent and violent extinction. Since its release, some of the poachers seen in the film have been apprehended and sentenced to years in prison.

These are just a few of my top picks for documentaries. Any documentary can give you valuable information.
